Join host Cici Woo for a special welcome to Alison Macondray and Matt Clark, co-founders of creative agency Alimat, Inc. (“Smart Presentations for Beautiful minds”).

Following this year's theme of WELLNESS, we are asking Matt and Alison about their creative collaboration, and how they help their clients (think "TED" talks).

Meet Alimat.

Through their firm Alimat, Alison and Matt partner with founders, executives, entrepreneurs, authors, and other influencers to deliver live presentations. Think TED talks, keynote speeches, road-show presentations, and high-stakes pitches. They specialize in extracting a speaker’s unique genius and “big idea,” finding the storyline that will hold an audience, and then bringing it to life through custom-crafted scripting and visual storytelling.

Their clients have experienced millions of views on, standing ovations at major conferences, and transformative career growth, from new business to fast-tracking careers as professional speakers. Clients often describe the process as “having my story pulled out of me” -- with the resulting confidence and readiness to tell their story onstage.

Alison and Matt are also partners in real life -- married for 13 years, and in business together for over a decade. As such they have a lot of tips and tricks (and well-earned lessons!) about how to maintain creative alchemy between themselves and their clients, while keeping their relationship healthy and ever-evolving.

More about Alison: Alison Macondray acts as content strategist, producer, editor, writer, and overall cat-herder of details at Alimat. She sees herself as a “midwife to genius” for the role she takes in helping clients clarify their story, gain the confidence to tell it, then bring it to the world.

Prior to co-founding Alimat, Alison spent seven years at technology news pioneer WIRED News, as managing editor, managing producer, and ultimately Publisher/GM in charge of strategy and staffing. She helped shepherd the site through turbulent times, while staying true to WIRED’s mission. During her tenure, the site was nominated for 26 awards. She got her start in literary book publishing at SF-based Mercury House and then Pantheon Books (a division of Random House), working closely with authors such as Anne Lamott, Gary Snyder, and Wendell Berry.

Alison’s understanding of stage presence was honed by 15 years of training as a dancer and musical theater performer, including six months performing Broadway show tunes on a cruise ship. An Oakland native, she lives in the East Bay hills with Matt, where they often conduct West-Wing style “walk and talk” meetings in Wildcat Canyon (snappy dialogue included).

More about Matt: Matt Clark began his career in art, design and storytelling with his first set of crayons, but more formally with a BFA from The Cooper Union School of Art in NYC. After several years of agency work in New York and Switzerland he migrated West, landing at Frog Design and Astro Studios before striking out on his own.

Following his studio/agency years and prior to Alimat, Matt set out as a consultant to broaden his experience with creative expression and storytelling, working in diverse capacities as a creative director, art director, designer, copywriter, editor, and illustrator. His extensive experience designing for diverse clientele keeps him abreast of the mediums and methods that make a story stick.

Matt practices Yama, a mash-up of yoga and nabard, a near-mystical martial art from ancient Persia where they are apparently very fond of pushups. He also writes and illustrates children’s books through his publishing outfit Scrumptious Waffles, focusing on curiosity and kindness. Follow his original artwork and stream-of-consciousness poetry on Instagram under the pseudonym @AugustusBenjamin (shhh …).
