Why Social VR is Limited by "150"
Michael Zhang, Student, University of Michigan
"Dunbar's number" states that humans have a cognitive limit of maintaining 150 relationships that has persisted since the early hunter-gatherer societies. Will social VR be constrained by this limit? What implications does this number have on social VR's ability to foster new relationships and its impact on mental health and our well-being?
Michael Zhang is a University of Michigan business student, self-taught VR developer, and XR student leader. He's hosted over 80 VR events in person and in social VR ranging from meetups, workshops, and even a conference. Michael is currently researching how social VR can foster authentic relationships, bridge geographic distances, and inspire the impossible.
