Ethics of Social VR Research

Educators in VR Researchers

Join us this week for a discussion on ethics of conducting research in social VR. Team member Michael Zhang will lead the discussion with our special guest and PhD student, Victoria Chang from the University of Maryland.

We'll draw from our own social VR research experiences, best practices according to IRB ethics boards and the field of human-computer interaction and anthropology, and recommendations from Maloney et al.'s paper "Social Virtual Reality: Ethical Considerations and Future Directions for An Emerging Research Space" (2021).

The Educators in VR Research Team features researchers from across the spectrum of VR/AR/XR research and development, coming together to share their knowledge, techniques, and research and learn from each other. Join us to discuss the possibilities and potential of research in VR. We host regular meetups and workshops for discussion and learning. If you would like to join the discussion, please join our Educators in VR Discord
